CLA Supports Sustainable Forest Management
The CLA and its membership are proud of Canadian efforts to sustain
Canada’s forest resources for the benefit of current and future
generations. Although Canada’s forests are vast, the CLA recognizes
that even vast and abundant resources must be managed carefully
for a range of values of importance to Canadians. CLA members and
their customers can rest assured that the forests of Canada are
abundant and growing, that legislation is in place to maintain water
quality, soil quality, habitat for our wildlife, and much more.
The Canadian forest industry operates within a legal framework
that protects its forests, controls its harvest and regulates its
use. Indeed, Canada harvests four times less (proportionally) wood
each year than the five largest European forest nations combined.
Moreover, we ensure that what gets harvested gets regenerated, and
that is the beauty of wood, it is not just aesthetically pleasing,
it is the best environmental choice. Why? Because it is abundant,
it is renewable, it regenerates itself using solar energy, and in
so-doing cleans our air by taking in carbon-dioxide and breathing
out our own source of life – oxygen. Take heart in knowing
that wood is good, it is good for all of us.
